Local Area Information

Great Dunham is a rural Norfolk village and, although it has no amenities, the surrounding villages of Litcham, Sporle and Beeston all have pubs that serve food with Litcham and Sporle also having a shop with post office. Swaffham is about 5 miles away with Fakenham and Dereham taking about a 15 minute drive to reach.

We do have a small farm shop on site which is stocked with a few basics in addition to the home made jams, marmalades, chutney's, apple juice and home grown produce.

Walking in Norfolk

There are some fantastic walks in Norfolk.

Please have a look at Visit Norfolk - Things to do

It will give you all the information you need and tells you about the Nar Valley Way, Peddars Way and the Norfolk Coast Path to name a few.

Birdwatching & Wildlife

The Visit Norfolk website lists all the Norfolk Bird Reserves and tells you about each one and what you might see at certain times of the year.

Railways

The Mid Norfolk Railway is East Anglia's longest heritage railway and runs between Dereham and Wymondham. There are three other light railways as well as the main line.  Again all information is available on the Visit Norfolk website.

The Brecks

We are in the area known as The Brecks which boasts the best overall climate with low rainfall and hot summers! It has one of the most distinctive landscapes in the UK. See the Visit Norfolk website for more information on Thetford Forest and the history of the area.

Churches

There are so many churches in this area. Norwich boasts more medieval churches than anywhere in Europe. Our nearest Round tower church is at Lexham. See the website for more information on the two cathedrals in Norwich as well as the churches.

Cycling

If you're feeling energetic you can try the Norfolk Coastal Cycleway or there is off-road cycling at Thetford Forest.  There are quiet byways to explore in West Norfolk. See the website for further  information.
